Driver in the Spotlight – Mark Scheidler

It’s Sunday evening and a StoneBridge truck is loaded and destined for multiple deliveries along the East Coast on Tuesday. Immediately after the assigned driver began his journey, life happened and they contacted StoneBridge Dispatch alerting them that they would not be able to execute the run due to unforeseen personal circumstances. This constitutes an EMERGENCY in the world of expediting and small load trucking, ESPECIALLY when the cargo on board is for one of your top customers. Scrambling to come up with a solution, the same tactic was employed as it had been for many years, CALL YOUR MOST DEPENDABLE DRIVER, and hopefully he come through AGAIN, as he always has done. Mark “Shark” Scheidler was contacted:

Dispatch: Mark, I know its Sunday night and I know you had plans with your family, but here is the situation . . . can you make this happen?

Shark: Where is the load going and when does it need to be there?

Dispatch: East Coast, multiple deliveries, due on Tuesday.

Shark: Sweet, I can do it. I will get it done.

And so it goes. Since 2012, Mark Scheidler has proven time and time again to be one of the most dependable, trusted, competent, and professional drivers to occupy a StoneBridge Truck. The aforementioned example is a simple “drop in the bucket” considering the countless comparable examples in which he has been responsible in helping StoneBridge maintain its high standard of dependability and trustworthiness. Based on his history of success with StoneBridge, and his importance to its growth and success, Mark is our “DRIVER IN THE SPOTLIGHT”, and was the recipient of 2017’s most prestigious award, the “STONEBRIDGE DRIVER OF THE YEAR”.

Born in Greensburg in 1954, Mark is one of 4 children. His father owned a decorating business and his mother worked as a secretary. For many years, Scheidler Brothers Decorating Center was part of the Greensburg community. Eventually, the company would be owned and ran by Mark himself, and for 21 years he transformed, grew, and set a standard for customer service in the paint business. Over that time, he experienced and tackled many challenges: “When I took it over, we were in a bad location, we had very low output, and I knew many changes needed to be made”. I worked extremely hard to revamp our model while putting a VITAL FOCUS on customer service.” Mark worked to ingratiate himself and his company with the Home Builders Association which proved to be essential in his company’s success. “I worked so hard to prove myself to them, that when I began getting the opportunities, I worked even harder to deliver. It didn’t take long until we were the main service in which they trusted, and business was extremely good.”

This success would come with its frustrating challenges. The success resulted in long hours which took a toll on his time with family. He has a beautiful family. His wife Paula is a Nurse Practitioner, and they are proud parents to their two daughters Briana and Chelsea. “Over time I simply got burnt out, I was working way too hard and didn’t have enough time with my family. Finding good dependable employees also presented challenges that I was no longer willing to tolerate.”

Eventually Shark would sell the business and came to StoneBridge. BUT LETS TALK ABOUT WHAT WE KNOW YOU ARE WONDERING. WHERE DID THE NAME “SHARK” COME FROM? Mark has always had the reputation for being quite the golfer. 30 years ago he competed in a tournament at the Greensburg Country Club and one of the older gentleman at the course labeled him the “Shark” in reference to pro golfer Greg Norman based on his consistent ability to maintain a low handicap. For all of the non-golfers reading this article, it means Mark is REALLY . . . REALLY good.  His talent for the game also resonates in his two daughters who played golf at Greensburg High School. His daughter Brianna, now a Registered Nurse, was an All-State Golfer for 3 years. And his daughter Chelsea, now a Veterinarian, was a State Finalist for 3 years. The community is also involved. Once a year in June, over 100 people will annually attend the “Shark Shootout” at the Greensburg Country Club. His involvement with the community doesn’t stop there. For the past 27 years, Mark has supported the “Local Cheer Fund” through the Greensburg Daily News in which he takes time to deliver Christmas articles to those in need throughout the community.

Along with being a proud husband and father, he is now a proud Grandpa. His daughter Brianna recently gave birth to his grandson Rhett. Because of this, he enjoys working at StoneBridge Trucking and his success in the private sector and the community shows a direct correlation: “When it comes to working with StoneBridge, I am comfortable dealing with the issues as they arise, understanding people and our customers’ needs. There isn’t time for excuses, lets solve the problem”. Along with this, Mark enjoys the ability to stay active while being able to appreciate life. “I enjoy the flexibility of working here. I set my own schedule. Here you can be your own boss, work for a great team with great resources, and ultimately, work with many great customers.”

Mark’s overall attitude towards life, family, and community shows exactly why he has been paramount to the success of StoneBridge Trucking. That is why we are proud to have him as our “Driver in the Spotlight” and FIRST EVER recipient of the “StoneBridge Driver of Year” for 2017.
